Contract NewsFrom the President's Desk "On September 3, USW Local 8888 and Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding started negotiating a new contract for 9,000 union eligible employees. So far things have gone along pretty well. The first week we exchanged proposals and both sides broke to discuss them. Contract language is what we have been discussing the last few days and we are about to start discussing benefits. As I have stated before things are progressing along and we hope to begin discussing the economic package in the next few weeks." Mr. Fred Redmond (USW International Vice President) spoke to the CAT Team (Contract Action Team) on Tuesday, September 23rd. Highlights were: We are depending on our membership for support to endorse what the Negotiating Committee is working very hard to accomplish. Working to bring the membership the best possible contract, Fred Redmond is overseeing the negotiations. The CAT Team will be responsible for getting first hand information and passing it on to the members in the Yard. They will be wearing special ordered yellow T-shirts and their responsibility will be to get the information from the Negotiating Committee and pass it on to all of our members. Some of the items mentioned that are HIGH PRIORITY were pension increases, paid time off for sick leave or other type needs. Monetary items will be talked about after the non economic issues, needs and wants have been worked out. Chan Lewis says all are welcome to join the CAT Team. UPDATES will happen as often as the information becomes available and will be posted here.
